6 Week Reassurance Scan
In the early stages of pregnancy, whether it is your first or not, parents will often want to seek a level of reassurance that their pregnancy has been successful. At Peek A Baby, we offer an early reassurance scan from 6 weeks to 15 weeks.
This early reassurance scan, sometimes referred to as a dating scan, viability scan, first pregnancy scan or early pregnancy scan, is a transabdominal scan that aims to confirm your pregnancy, giving you reassurance & peace of mind. In some cases where pregnancy is difficult to detect at this early stage, a transvaginal scan may be recommended, with permission being sought beforehand.
The Significance of an Early Reassurance Scan
Our early reassurance scan has been designed to give parents an opportunity to meet their baby from as early as 6 weeks. From 7 weeks, this scan will be able to detect your baby's heartbeat once a successful pregnancy is confirmed. Between 6 and 9 weeks, this reassurance scan will also be able to detect the presence of the gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole.
With NHS scans from 12 weeks, Peek A Baby provides parents with an early opportunity to meet their baby and find reassurance in their pregnancy before their hospital scan. Book an early reassurance scan today with your local clinic to get peace of mind in your early pregnancy.

The Benefits of an Early Reassurance Scan
Early reassurance scans with Peek A Baby offer numerous benefits for first-time mums and those expanding their families, including:
- Pregnancy Confirmation: To rule out pregnancy issues like blighted ovum or ectopic pregnancies, it is essential to confirm your pregnancy.
- Precise Fetal Measurements & Accurate Dating: Early reassurance scans can assist in determining the exact date of your pregnancy and provide an expected due date.
- Parental Reassurance: An early reassurance scan can give many parents, first-time or not, a sense of security during their pregnancy and a chance to build a bond with their unborn child.
- Identification of Multiple Pregnancies: Multiple pregnancies, such as twins or triplets, can be found during early reassurance scans. Establishing this early on can guarantee that the mother and the unborn child receive the proper care during these pregnancies, which need specific monitoring and attention.
- Early Detection of Abnormalities: An early reassurance scan may occasionally reveal serious abnormalities that may prompt parents to make decisions about early pregnancy treatment. Later in pregnancy, between weeks 18 and 21, an anomaly scan from Peek A Baby can shed more light on any anomalies.
The benefits of an early reassurance scan with your local Peek A Baby provide complete peace of mind in the early stages of your pregnancy. For first-time and experienced mums, this can be an emotionally challenging time, navigating the early steps in pregnancy. We are here to help.
Peek A Baby's early reassurance scans are available in our Birmingham, London & Bromsgrove clinics from 6 weeks onwards. Seek the reassurance that you need with your loved ones and meet your baby for the first time.
6 Week Scans & Gender Reveal
At Peek A Baby, not only do we aim to provide parents with an opportunity to meet their baby from 6 weeks, but we also provide an exciting opportunity to find out their baby's gender at this time too!
In addition to our early reassurance scan, our early gender blood test can be taken as early as week six of pregnancy. To get fetal DNA, a mother's blood sample is necessary. The gender of your baby is ascertained through chromosomal analysis once this has been isolated from the mother's DNA. If Y chromosomes are found, your baby is a boy; if no Y chromosome is identified, your baby is a girl!
With its 99.9% accuracy and highly accurate results, this non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT test) allows parents to plan for their baby's arrival sooner and have a celebration with their loved ones.
With Peek A Baby clinics, you can book to find out your baby's gender on its own or with an early reassurance scan. When booking a combined package, your early scan is only £25!

Early Reassurance Scan FAQs
The short answer to this is yes. Peek A Baby details three options in this situation. For more information, click here.
Pregnancy scans are increasingly accurate from 6 weeks onwards. Before 6 weeks, the pregnancy may not provide a clear enough image due to being too small.
When you come for a first pregnancy scan, a full bladder is required. All scans below 19 weeks will require a full bladder in our clinics.
Sadly, baby will often have a mind of its own. We recommend that you drink or eat something sugary roughly 10-20 minutes before your scan and bring a cold drink with you. We also recommend drinking plenty of water in the days before your scan for enhanced clarity on the ultrasound.
Ultrasound scans are completely safe for mothers and abys during pregnancy due to there being no radiation or surgical procedures involved. All scans should adhere to the ALARA principle (as low as reasonable possible) to ensure minimal exposure during scans.
Calculating your due date can be tricky. We have got our Eligibility Calculator on our early gender blood tests page that can help you check if you are roughly 6 weeks pregnant.
At Peek A Baby, we give you an estimate due date on your first scan with us. Alternatively, you can contact our team and seek advice on how to do this before your scan.
