Your Baby's Development & Growth
The following growth timeline is a general synopsis of the process of growth of the baby in the mother’s womb. There are some interesting pregnancy facts, but they should only be considered as a general guide. There may be slight variations in each individual case.
16 Weeks
- Baby's nails are well formed.
- Baby is emptying his/her bladder every 40-45 minutes.
- Baby is about 3 ounces (85 grams) and 6.3 inches (16 cm).
- The gender may be detectable by ultrasound.

22 Weeks
- This week your baby has developed eyebrows.
- She/He weighs about 15 ounces (425 grams) & measure 27.5 cm or 10.8 inches total length.
- Your baby's lungs are starting to develop with them practicing to breathe in the womb.

24 Weeks
- Your baby is almost completely formed and is beginning to deposit fat on his or her body.
- She/He weighs about 1lb and 5 ounces (595 grams).
- Your baby is roughly 30cm or 11.8 inches in length.

- Your baby’s eye lashes are developing.
- If it’s a boy his testes will probably begin descending.
- Your baby is about 13.8 inches long (35cm) and weighs about 2 lbs and 4 ounces (1kg).

- Your baby weighs a whopping 3 lbs (1.36 kg).
- Baby measures about 14.8 inches (37.5cm)

- Your baby has put on about 2 pounds of weight, mostly fat and muscle tissue.
- This brings your baby's weight to roughly 4 pounds and 11 ounces.
- Baby's measurements are around 40 cm or 15.8 inches.
